Obituary

MARY FRANCES SCIALABBA

Mary Frances Scialabba, age 100, of Butler, passed away on Monday, December 5, 2016, at VNA Inpatient Hospice in Butler.

Born in Greenville, PA on January 4, 1916, she was the daughter of the late Dominick and Rose Scali Marks. Mary was one of eight children, and her brothers and sisters -- Jim, Joseph, Carl, Dominick, Jr., Josephine Morabito, Jenny Nolan, and Mildred Petruso -- preceded her in death.

She spent 63 wonderful years with her husband, Peter Scialabba, until his death in 1998.  They lived in Butler, but after five years they moved to Fresno, CA, for ten years before settling back in Butler where Mary and Peter owned and operated the Spillway Inn.

Mary is survived by two daughters, Marie Bove (husband Dominick, deceased), of Smithtown, NY, and Trina Rockenstein and her husband, Thomas, of Butler; and one son, A.Vincent and his wife, Frances (Geisler), of New Castle. Her son Donald and his wife Judith (McCool) are both deceased.

Also surviving are 17 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.  Mary was recently blessed with a great-great grandchild.  She never forgot to send them birthday cards.

Since the death of her husband, Mary lived primarily with her daughter Trina and spent shorter stays with her daughter Marie and son A.Vincent until moving into the YWCA Personal Care Residence in June, 2016.

Mary and Peter were a happy couple who extended their home to friends and relatives on many occasions.  They played golf together for years.  Mary was an outstanding cook and enjoyed having family over on Sundays for dinner.  She enjoyed reading novels, working on crossword puzzles, playing cards with relatives and friends, and the game of Scrabble.  Their house was always filled with the aromas of Italian foods and good music.

She was a devout Catholic and a lifetime member of Saint Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church.  She never went to bed without saying the rosary.

Friends will be received in the Martin Funeral Home, Inc., 429 Center Avenue, Butler, on Thursday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday at 10 a.m. from Saint Michael the Archangel R.C. Church, 432 Center Avenue, Butler.
