Leonard A. Grence, age 54, of Chicora, formerly of Butler, passed away surrounded by family and friends on Tues., Dec. 27, 2022, in Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born in Butler on June 25, 1968, he was the beloved son of the late Anthony C. and Helen Kriley Grence.

Len was as gruff as he was kind, and he loved everyone until he didn't. He had many health challenges in life but he always tried his best. The last years weren't kind to him, but he still loved with his huge heart until that heart took his life.

He graduated from Butler High School, and went on to Duquesne University to graduate and become an attorney. His first professional position was at Legal Aid, and from there he started his own law firm on Main Street in Butler. He then joined a local attorney and practiced there until he became extremely ill with what were to be ongoing health issues. He was in nursing care for the past 11 years.

He was a member of All Saints Parish, Saint Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, Butler.

Len is survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins whom he loved dearly. In addition, he leaves behind his amazing supportive friends whom he referred to as his brothers and sisters. He is also survived by his goddaughter, Anne Marie Starvaggi, whom he called his Countess.

He was preceded in death by his father, in 2001, and his mother, in 2019.

Friends will be received in the Martin Funeral Home, Inc., 429 Center Ave., Butler, on Fri., Dec. 30, from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

A Blessing Service will follow at 1 p.m. at the funeral home, with Deacon Mitch Natali officiating.

Burial will take place in St. Michael's Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a Go Fund Me account has been established in Len's name.
