Obituary

Joseph V. Scuro, Jr., 87, of Butler, passed away at his home Thursday after an extended illness with his loving family by his side.

Joe was born June 12, 1934 in Pittsburgh to Joseph and Concetto Berretti Scuro.

Joe graduated from Central Catholic High School in Pittsburgh and attended Duquesne University prior to joining the United States Army.  He served two years stationed at Fort Dix, New Jersey, with deployments to France, Germany, and Italy.

Joe worked at Heinz Corporation and Campbell Soup in Pittsburgh, as well as International Staple and Marmon Keystone in East Butler, and retired in 1999.

During his free time Joe enjoyed family trips to Cedar Point, Hidden Valley, Las Vegas, New Jersey, Niagara Falls, Orlando, and Seven Springs, to name a few.  In his earlier years he enjoyed going to the beach, dancing the jitterbug with his wife, and playing baseball, basketball, bowling, and volleyball.  He enjoyed swimming and taking his daughter and nephews to Alameda Park.  Later in life he enjoyed spending time with his great-nephew, Austin Rottman, who loved filling up Joe's dessert plate.  Joe had a big sweet tooth, with cookies, cake, and ice cream being some of his favorite treats. He also loved Italian food, especially when enjoyed on a Sunday afternoon with his family followed by a game of cards.  Joe was an ardent Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers fan, cheering them on.

Joe is survived by his wife of 60 years, Nancy Spohn Scuro, and his daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Eric Dodd, of Butler.  He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Linda (Larry) Rottman; brothers-in-law, Fred (Nora) Spohn and John (Linda) Spohn; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Rose Costanzo; and his brothers Tony and Albert Scuro.  His infant son, Albert, also preceded him in death.
