John "Jack" Patrick Smith, 83, died April 11, 2023, at his home in Lancaster Calif.

Born on September 20, 1939, he was the son of the late William and Mary Monroe Smith and he grew up in Herman.

A 1957 graduate of Butler Senior High School, he joined the U.S. Air Force and was discharged in 1962.  He then moved to California and was employed by Rockwell/Boeing until his retirement in 1999 as a metrology engineer. He worked on several of the space shuttles and the B-1 Bomber and he received many awards for his work.

Jack is survived by a sister, Agnes Widenhofer, of Herman, and two brothers, Donald R. Smith, of Blairsville, and Thomas J. Smith, of Herman.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Mary Yamnitsky, Trudy Moore, Rose McCall, Bill Smith, Helen Carter, and Jim Smith.

Local services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
