Obituary

Clyde Eugene Greenwood, age 95, of Butler, formerly of Wampum, passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at Sunnyview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born October 18, 1922, he was a son of the late Harris Carner and Sara Blanche Barnhart Greenwood.

Clyde was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He served in World War II.  He served from 1942 through 1945 stationed in New Guinea, the Philippians and other small islands in the South Pacific as part of the signal core installing and defending communication lines.

He was an installation supervisor for Southern Bell Phone Company for 37 years. This is where he learned many the skills he used throughout his life.  Clyde was a carpenter, electrician, and plumber an overall jack of all trades. He was an undiscovered artistic talent with paintings across the U.S., He even taught art in his assisted living home and made Walmart runs for the residents.  Some of his memorable sayings were "The hardest part of a job was learning to fix your mistakes", "If you have the tools, and the will, you can accomplish anything" and "If he could do it, you could do it" and "Never look back".  He built his own retirement log home from the ground up, then traveled the U.S. in a motor home for 5 years.  If you asked him he would tell you he lived a wonderful life, with no complaints other than not learning to play the piano.  To him the glass was always half full and no problem was ever too large to overcome and to his family and friends he was inspiring.

Clyde was a member of F&AM Lodge 599 in Ellwood City.

He is survived by four children, Holly Sue Vrchota and her husband, Jon, of Waynesville, NC, Terrie Lynn Wilson and her husband, Ray, of Philipsburg, MT; Kim Arthur Greenwood, of Punta Gorda, FL; and Tod Harris Greenwood and his wife, Lynne, of Deerfield Beach, FL.

Also surviving are a brother, Charles Greenwood, of Ellwood City; two grandchildren, Sara McGuire and Chad Vrchota; and four great-grandchildren, Mia Vrchota, Landon Wilson, Thomas McGuire, and Audrina McGuire.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Mae Nicklas Greenwood, who passed away July 24, 2005; a brother, Ray Greenwood; a sister, Esther Cragel; and a grandson, Tyler Thomann.

There is no visitation, and funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.
