Obituary

Allen Robert Hawk, 57, of Butler, left this life after a lengthy illness on Sunday, Dec. 29, 2024, at Butler Memorial Hospital.

Born Aug. 15, 1967, in Butler, he was the son of Kathleen P. Pollock Hawk and the late Robert F. Hawk, Esquire.

A Baptist by faith, Allen was a dedicated prayer warrior who often posted uplifting morning and evening prayers on social media.

Known for his sense of humor, he was blessed with a loving family and countless friends and neighbors. He loved music, animals, Penn State University football, Duke University basketball, and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

An honor student at Butler High School, he lettered in swimming. He then transferred to, and graduated from, Mercersburg Academy, where he also lettered in swimming in 1985.

Allen attended Westminster College for two years, followed by two years at Johnson and Wales University in Providence, R.I. He graduated from Johnson and Wales with an honors degree in resort, institution, hotel and restaurant management.

He started his management work life at Bob Evans and Italian Oven restaurants before being selected to open a brand-new Old Country Buffet in Ohio.

He later moved on to institution food management, supervising the opening of prison food service operations up-and-down the east coast, including new jails in Boston, Massachusetts and the Tigert Valley Regional Jail in Belington, West Virginia. He eventually returned to Butler to serve as Director of Food Service at the Butler County Prison.

Allen belonged to American Legion Post 778 and the Butler YMCA. He was a former member of First Baptist Church, and he was a former member of the Butler Country Club.

A patriot, he enjoyed politics. He was elected and served for years as the majority inspector for Butler Township voting precinct 1-2.

Allen is survived by his mother, Kathleen P. Pollock Hawk, of Butler; cousins Sara Pollock, of Chicago, Ill., and Evan Pollock, of Austin, Texas; and countless treasured friends, especially Debbie Fields, of Butler, who was like family to him, and Champ and Morris.
